Freedom of Choice
It is important to allow the children to have the freedom of choice. Allowing the children to choice the activities gives them a purpose and this purpose allows them to stay focus on the subject at hand. The children need to understand that this freedom is limited to the exercises planned and they do not have the right to make their own activities up. An example of this process occurred daily at our last years camp. We had activities planned around the building: team building exercises in the gymnasium, crafts in the lunchroom, and kickball on the baseball diamond.
The children had the opportunity to choice and the choices they made are what they had to stick with for the time allotted. I believe this philosophy allows the children to feel in control and allows for less distractions. For rules and regulations of Kickball:Click Here
